Compulsory vaccination: in which countries is it already applied

In some countries of the world, vaccination against coronavirus has become mandatory for certain groups of the population.

The prevalence of the Delta mutation, combined with a significant portion of the population not being vaccinated, poses a threat to public health. So, in several countries of the world, including Greece, vaccination has become mandatory for certain groups of the population.

Countries in which vaccination against coronavirus has become mandatory:

TURKMENISTAN – VATIKAN – TAJIKISTAN

These 3 countries are the only ones in which vaccination has become compulsory for all residents aged 18 and over.

AUSTRALIA

At the end of June, Australia decided to mandate the vaccination of workers from high-risk groups and the elderly in nursing homes. Mandatory vaccinations have also been introduced for Paralympic athletes traveling to Tokyo. In Tasmania, vaccines will become mandatory for nursing home nurses starting September 17, 2021.

BRITANNIA

The UK government has passed a new law requiring people working in nursing homes to be vaccinated against Covid-19. The new law will enter into force on November 11 and will apply to all providers of this type of service (elderly care). The obligation will apply to all employees of the “God-pleasing institution”, as well as volunteers and medical workers who take care of a person at home.

CANADA

On August 13, Canada said it would soon require all government employees and many other workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The vaccination order will also include passengers traveling by plane, train and cruise ships. On August 12, officials said British Columbia is injecting the COVID-19 vaccine to all nursing home staff, making it one of the first provinces in Canada to do so.

FIJI

According to CAN, unvaccinated civil servants in Fiji have been forced to “go on vacation” since August 15. Civil servants who have not been vaccinated by November will be fired.

FRANCE

On August 2, the French parliament passed a law that will make vaccinations mandatory for healthcare workers.

INDONESIA

Indonesia introduced mandatory vaccinations in February. Violators of the ordinance face fines of up to 5 million rupees ($ 357).

ITALY

A decree passed by the Italian government in March requires healthcare workers, including pharmacists, to be vaccinated. Those who refuse can be suspended from work until the end of the year (without payment).

In addition, in early August, the Italian government made the coronavirus green pass compulsory for teachers as well as passengers on public transport, including domestic flights, ships and long-distance trains. The Green Pass has also become a must at cinemas, museums and indoor sports venues or indoor restaurants.

The Green Pass proves that its owners have either been vaccinated with at least one dose, recovered from covid-19 in the past six months, or tested negative within the previous 48 hours. The Green Pass is mandatory for school and university staff and university students. Employees who fail to bring a Green Pass for five consecutive days will be suspended and their salaries frozen. The Italian government is already considering making COVID vaccination mandatory for everyone once the vaccines are fully approved by European and Italian regulatory authorities.

HUNGARY

The Hungarian government has decided to make vaccinations mandatory for healthcare workers.

KAZAKHSTAN

Kazakhstan will introduce compulsory vaccinations or weekly tests for people working in groups of more than 20 people.

LEBANON

Lebanon only allows entry to restaurants, cafes, pubs and beaches by people with vaccination certificates or those who have passed antibody tests. Unvaccinated staff at these facilities are required to undergo PCR every 72 hours.

MALTA

Malta has banned visitors from entering the country since July 14 unless they are fully vaccinated.

MICRONESIA

A small island nation in the South Pacific, the Federated States of Micronesia (includes all Carolinas islands except Palau) has instructed all adults to be vaccinated against COVID-19. On July 29, the Pacific island nation said that anyone over the age of 18 should receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

RUSSIA

On June 16, Moscow authorities ordered all state employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Companies were given one month to get at least 60% of employees to get their first vaccination. Otherwise, the enterprises will be charged with fines or they will face temporary closure. Moscow residents no longer need to present a QR code confirming that they have been vaccinated or have antibodies in order to visit cafes, restaurants and bars, from July 19, 2021.

SAUDI ARABIA

In May, Saudi Arabia ordered the vaccination of all public and private sector workers, without specifying when this would be done. Vaccination is also required upon admission to any public, private or educational institution, when using public transport from August 1. Saudi citizens will need to receive a full vaccination (2 doses) to travel outside the kingdom from August 9, state news agency SPA reported July 19, citing the Interior Ministry.

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka announced on August 13 that citizens will be required to present a certificate of vaccination for travel between provinces and public places from September 15, according to the Business Standard.

USA

US President Joe Biden has called on local governments to pay people to get vaccinated and to establish new rules requiring federal employees to provide vaccination certificates or regular tests.

On August 5, the White House confirmed that it is considering the need to vaccinate foreign visitors as it plans to finally open up international communications. However, he said that he has not yet made a final decision on this issue and will not remove the restrictions immediately.

New York will be the first major US city to require vaccination certificates for customers and staff at restaurants, gyms and other businesses from September 13, as the country enters a new phase of the battle with the Delta variant.

On August 12, the cities of San Francisco and New Orleans are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter restaurants, gyms and other public places.
