The increase in the cost of rapid tests is required by the primary health care authorities Πρωτοβάθμιας Φροντίδας Υγείας (ΠΦΥ).
The primary health care coordinating authority is asking for an increase in the price of a rapid test for unvaccinated workers who will have to pay out of pocket for a mandatory test from 13 September to begin their work duties.
“It is not possible to conduct an examination at the price of a rapid test of 10 euros, because it is lower than the operating costs, which are at least 12 euros for an average diagnostic laboratory,” the institution said in a statement.
The decision of the Ministry of Health on the price of rapid tests of 10 euros, as well as the issue of refunds and further actions to coordinate and introduce new measures to combat coronavirus from 13 September were discussed at a meeting of representatives of the coordinating body of primary health care.
The general conclusion of the representatives was that, in addition to the price of the reagent, the following was not calculated for express tests:
cost of consumables for sampling, cost of antiseptic after sampling, labor costs of specialized personnel for analysis, payment of administrative personnel, cost of waste management (disposal), purchase cost of reagents, amortization cost of medical equipment.
“Given the volume of medical procedures that will be requested daily, which until recently in the private sector was 50,000 rapid tests per day, and according to other estimates exceeds 250,000 tests per day, it is clear that the laboratory will have to invest in medical equipment and medical staff, which cannot be done at such a price, ”the appeal says.
Representatives of Πρωτοβάθμιας Φροντίδας Υγείας (ΠΦΥ) are asking the government to reconsider its decision, because, they say, it will face a situation in which tests will be impossible, “despite the expressed will of the entire medical world to help fight the pandemic.”
