The Chinese vaccine against coronavirus CoronaVac, manufactured by Sinovac (Beijing), has been approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
The WHO Press Office reports on its website:
WHO today approved the Sinovac-CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, giving countries, funding agencies, procurement agencies and the community confidence that it meets international standards for safety, efficacy and production.
The approval of the World Health Organization is an important step and a prerequisite for the vaccine to be included in the list of drugs that are distributed under the COVAX program. WHO approval is also required for international procurement.
More than 200 million doses of CoronaVac have already been delivered to different countries of the world, approximately 100 million vaccinations with this drug have already been made. In Ukraine, for example, vaccination with a Chinese drug has been carried out for almost 2 months, starting from April 12. In some cities – Kiev, Odessa, Lviv – only CoronaVac is available.
