The tremors of 3.9 magnitude were felt tonight not only in Patras, but also in many regions of western Greece. The earthquake occurred on Thursday May 27 at 21:39.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, a seismic vibration of 3.9 magnitude was concentrated 9 km southwest of Nafpaktos, in the Antirrio region. The shallow focal depth, only 5 km, and the duration of the aftershocks caused concern not only among the residents of Patras, but also in many areas – Messolonghi, Rio, Nafpaktos, Achaia, Etoloakarnania.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center estimated the strength of the earthquake at 4 points on the Richter scale, the epicenter was recorded 12 km from Patras. Seismic activity data that comes from the European Mediterranean Seismological Institute or the Athens Geodynamic Institute are provided without the participation of a seismologist. They are automatically recorded by the computer system, and, as new data arrives, the solutions are updated.
