Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director of the Federal Budgetary Scientific Institution of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, warns about the manifestations of a severe form of covid in children, and tells RIA Novosti.
The expert explained that the appearance of shortness of breath and a rash in a child, as well as a fever that persists for at least three days, indicates a severe form of coronavirus. In this case, X-ray is necessary, which will help to determine the development of complications in a timely manner. In addition, this method reveals multi-inflammatory syndrome – an inflammatory process that affects several body systems at once and can cause the failure of some organs.
Gorelov warns that the appearance of a rash is not a harmless symptom, it may indicate a vascular lesion, the so-called Kawasaki syndrome. This is a necrotizing systemic vasculitis with a predominant lesion of medium and small arteries. The complication is manifested by changes in the mucous membranes and skin, as well as fever.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, only 0.2% of children carry the coronavirus in a severe form, the rest are quite easy. However, parents should be prepared for such a development of events in order to promptly seek medical help.
