India: new world record for number of cases per day and fatal hospital fire

Over the past 24 hours, more than 400,000 new cases of the disease have been registered in India, and 3,523 people have died in the last 24 hours, the Federal Ministry of Health officially reports. Another 16 people died in a fire in the intensive care unit at Baruch Hospital, in the western Indian state of Gujarat, according to the Press Trust of India.

According to official figures, 401,993 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of COVID-19 cases from February to 7.7 million.
