Nearly one and a half hundred residents of the French city of Epernay received an ordinary saline solution – sterile salt water as an inoculation, France Blue reports today.
Instead of the effective drug Pfizer, 140 people received an injection of saline solution, and the mistake of the vaccination center staff was discovered only the next day. Representatives of the center immediately tracked down all vaccinated citizens and invited them for re-vaccination after making an appointment.
The French authorities have not yet commented on the incident, however, following an investigation, they took appropriate measures. From now on, there will be a special medical worker in each vaccination center to strengthen the safety measures of the procedures.
Saline is used as a solvent for injection by some drugs, as well as for topical use in cleaning wounds. The received “salt vaccinations” will not affect the health of citizens, but they will have to visit the vaccination center again.
