Pandemic Chronicles: April 20, 3789 new cases, 847 intubated, 87 deaths

Today, Saturday April 20, the National Public Health Organization announced 3,789 new cases of Covid-19 in Greece. At the same time, according to EODY, 847 patients were intubated in intensive care units, 87 new deaths were registered.

As a reminder, the maximum number of cases reported by EODY in one day was announced on March 30, 2021, when 4,340 infected were detected in 24 hours. The largest number of deaths due to the virus per day was recorded on Saturday 28 November, when 121 patients died.

According to data released today (20.04) by the National Public Health Organization (EODY), the number of coronavirus cases in Greece was 3,789.

There have been 87 new deaths in the past 24 hours, while the number of patients receiving treatment by intubation stands at 847, remaining at an all-time high. 406 new patients with COVID 19 have been hospitalized in hospitals. The total number of cases is 320,629, with 9,627 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic.

EODY released the latest wastewater data showing another rise in viral load in Attica (+ 171%) last week. The viral load is extremely high in Agios Nikolaos (+ 360%) and Rethymno (+ 120%).

In the last 24 hours, 78,428 tests (23,623 PCR and 54,805 rapid tests) were performed with a positive result of 4.83%. The seven-day average is 54,649 spot checks.

M. Pagoni: Almost 50% of patients are young and unvaccinated.

According to the president of the Athens Nursing Association (EINAP) Matina Pagoni, many young people are being treated in hospitals with Covid-19, almost 50% of patients are young and not vaccinated.
