Air ambulance strengthened after road accident in Gavdos

The Prime Minister of Greece expressed his deep gratitude to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for the donated air vehicles, which are intended to provide an ambulance in case of emergency (Air ambulance).

About how the tragedy occurred in Gavdos, which cost the life of young Corina, was told by her companion and the driver of the car that fell into the abyss.

On Wednesday afternoon, April 14, EKAV services were replenished with two new aircraft and helicopters. These are Beechcraft King Air 350, which arrived in Greece from North Dakota (USA) and were purchased by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, after which they were donated to the state.

Earlier, on March 3, 2021, two Augusta Westland 109 Trekker helicopters were also received as part of an ISN donation.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized in his Facebook post:
“The two planes and two helicopters donated by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation strengthen and modernize EKAB’s air transport capabilities, and are designed to safely transport patients from remote areas of Greece quickly. Thanks to ISN for this important initiative. “

Recall, when a girl died in an accident in Gavdos (the car fell into the abyss), many began to accuse the authorities of delaying, arguing that if an ambulance (including by sea and air) arrived on time, the student could have been saved.

Death at Gavdos

About how the tragedy occurred in Gavdos, which cost the life of young Corina, was told by her companion and the driver of the car that fell into the abyss.

40-year-old friend of the student G. Gasparakis is currently in the hospital, where he is still undergoing treatment. “I have no words, I can only imagine what will happen to her parents,” he said in an interview with ANT1.

Recalling the events of that terrible day, he says: “We were having fun and fooling around, it was a wonderful evening … We were eating barbecue in the car when the handbrake failed. The car has dragged 80 meters. “

According to a participant in the tragedy and an eyewitness, when the car finally stopped (noting how endless the moment of falling into the abyss was), “he decided to get Corina out of the car.”

“She was very ill, her leg hurt, I threw a blanket over her that was in the car, found my cell phone, it had more than 5 percent charge. I could not call the number 112 – I did not catch the network (there was no telephone signal). I barely climbed upstairs to call and call for help, ”he continued, explaining that he got up barefoot and with broken ribs, overcoming the pain. “Korina was conscious, we talked to her until about 10:30 – 11:00. I would like to die in her place, ”he said.

As it became known, the driver of the car called 166 at 5:52. “I said that I needed air transport and dropped the geolocation data,” the man said, noting that he immediately called a doctor, who, according to him, arrived at the scene in 10-12 minutes. However, “a doctor is a doctor, not a climber,” he emphasized and noted how difficult it was for a physician to descend from a cliff to provide first aid to the victim.

We will remind, as previously wrote “Russian Athens”, early in the morning on Sunday 11/04, a tragedy occurred on the island of Gavdos: a car fell into the abyss, a young woman died.

The car, in which there were a man and a woman, fell off a cliff. According to the website Flash News, the man was thrown out of the car during a car accident and was hospitalized with injuries.

According to the information, the accident occurred on the road from Kastri to the village of Vatsiana, located in the south of the island. The car fell off a cliff, from a height of several meters. To provide first aid, doctors, firefighters and local residents rushed to the scene of the car accident. A helicopter with EMAK special forces flew to the island. The doctor and rescuers managed to get down from the cliff to where the car got stuck. Alas, having gone downstairs, the experts stated the death of the student.

After an investigation and according to the driver’s testimony, it turned out that the couple was in the car with the handbrake on. At some critical moment, he refused, and the car fell down
