Four Italian tourists violated the Covid-19 quarantine, left the hotel and went to Zakynthos airport to catch a flight to their country. Their plan was thwarted when the hotel announced their disappearance and informed the local police.
Four Italians, aged 21 to 23, were detained at the airport and sent back to a quarantine hotel.
Each of them was fined 5,000 euros for violating the prescribed self-isolation.
Four Italians have recently tested positive for Covid-19 and the 14-day quarantine period has not yet ended.
The second such incident in Zakynthos occurred Thursday afternoon, state broadcaster ERT reported.
In July, it was four British tourists who left the quarantine hotel and attempted to fly back to the UK.
