Proteo, rescue dog, dies in line of duty in Turkey

One of the Mexican army’s rescue dogs, named Proteo, who was involved in search and rescue operations in Turkey, has died in the line of duty, National Defense Minister Marcelo Embrandt has announced.

According to the first reports, it appears that Proteo was hit by a cave-in while looking for people in the ruins of the city of Aidamane, while other sources claim exhaustion.

Representatives of the Mexican army and air force in a statement expressed their regret over the “death of our comrade Proteo.” “He fulfilled his mission as a member of the Mexican delegation in search and rescue of our brothers and sisters in Turkey. We thank him for his heroic work!” – the message says.

In turn, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard also expressed sadness over the death of Proteo and thanked him for his work, writing on Twitter: “I am saddened by the death of Proteo. He exalted the name of Mexico and our people.”
