A heavy downpour with hail passed through the central and southern regions of Athens today, creating many problems for residents of the city and vehicles. Numerous floods and fallen trees have been reported.
Authorities were put on full alert as meteorologists warned of unfavorable weather in the country, with heavy rains and storms, gale-force winds and snowfall. Heavy hailstorms hit the center of Athens and the southern suburbs, and residents of many parts of Attica received the 112 message shortly after 11 am.
Literally immediately from many districts of the capital began to receive reports of flooded basements, overpasses and roads that turned into rivers.
It is also reported that the Spiros-Louis underpass at Marousi on Kifisia was flooded, causing cars to be trapped under the bridge and drivers having to leave their cars and flee.
According to information, electricity was cut off in several areas, as a result of which residents were in the dark. In particular, a power outage occurred in Camatero, Ag. Artemio, in Pagrati, Kypseli and Neo Kosmos, in the center of Athens, incl. in our editorial area.
