The gypsy riot is cancelled. Police lifted high alert

The state of readiness for possible incidents, in which the police stations were transferred by decision of the Greek police department, was removed, as the leader of the police union Stavros Balaskas said some time ago in an interview with one of the pro-government websites. He added that “the gypsies understand that the case has been referred to the judiciary.”

That is, according to the head of the police union, during behind-the-scenes negotiations, a certain agreement was reached so that the “Roma” would stop attacking everything that moves and everything that walks. As for the incidents, he noted that in the first two days they were committed by gypsies, while yesterday’s incidents were committed by “hooligans”.

We notice that all of a sudden the “tension” between the gypsies and the police has “decreased”. Suddenly, the gypsies understood everything, and the rioters became exclusively “hooligans”, that is, the gypsies had nothing to do with it, while “justice is doing the job.”

There were 33 arrests and 3 detentions in Thessaloniki, 23 arrests and one detention in Athens. Everyone, of course, has already been released for lack of staff … Balaskas said that, according to the law, a police officer, when his life or the lives of his colleagues, or the lives of citizens and their physical integrity are in danger, uses weapons. Speaking about what happened in this particular case, he stressed that “the only competent judge is the Greek court.”

As for what is expected next, he said: “We are waiting for the decision of the council plenary session on whether the policeman will be taken into custody.”

What the cop’s lawyer said

In turn, the lawyer of the policeman, Alexis Kugias, in an interview with the ANT1 television channel, explained that the decision of the Judicial Council would be made today. “Usually the prosecutor proposes, and the council decides. What happens in this case, I have never seen in the chronicles. The decision will be made by the same prosecutor who gave the conclusion,” he said. “There are 50 prosecutors in Thessaloniki, why will the same prosecutor who did not agree with the investigator make a decision? When disagreements arise, they are decided by the council. In such a case, the prosecutor must propose another prosecutor,” he added. Regarding the protection of the policeman, Kougias replied: “From the very beginning and without my presence, he described the incident, and what he described was the circumstances of the legal protection in favor of a third party. He quit because the lives of two of his colleagues were in danger. “Unfortunately, the 16-year-old passed away and would have had to answer to the charges brought by the prosecutor. My client will be charged with manslaughter with possible malicious intent. This does not change anything about the crime, the criminal provisions remain the same.”

What conclusions can be drawn from what happened, and what it can lead to

Apparently, the Greek authorities made a political decision to charge a police officer who was on duty but violated protocol, which, in fact, was contrary to police regulations, while protecting his colleague from possible death or injury.

This story is very reminiscent of the situation with the 2020 BLM in the United States, when the majority of the population was shocked by the decision of the authorities to make George Floyd “national hero”, and a policeman who has done his duty, to make a “national disgrace”. This decision significantly worsened the criminal situation in the United States as a whole for a long period, and will reverberate for a long time to come.

Similarly in Greece, the decision on the “guilt” of the policeman canceled the gypsy riot, which SYRIZA put on, but this led to the fact that the criminal elements among the gypsies, in fact, received indulgence to continue their criminal activities. At the same time, the police will turn a blind eye to their crimes even more.
