Development and Investment Minister Adonis Georgiadis made the official announcement of the “Holiday Family Basket”, one of the measures to fight inflation and support the vulnerable.
From December 14, the regulation comes into force, as well as the “Santa Claus Basket”, which will include children’s toys.
As emphasized, this assistance measure will apply only on holidays.
The holiday family basket will include the following products:
- Turkey,
- Beef,
- Chureki,
- Vasilopita (Christmas cake),
- and chocolate.
Thus, in combination with the standard set of products in the usual “family basket” (which remains valid and the lists are updated every week), consumers will have a wide choice of products at lower prices for the festive table.
“There was a lot of discussion about whether traditional Christmas sweets such as kurabye and melomacaronas should be included. By our own decision, we will not include them, so that there is no unfair competition with confectionery and bakeries,” the Minister of Development explained during the briefing.
The first “holiday” basket will be valid until January 4, 2023, and the second “Santa Claus basket” will be valid until January 11.
The Santa’s Basket will include the following:
- goods for newborns,
- board games,
- puzzles,
- dolls,
- constructors,
- fine art objects,
- educational games,
- cars (including remotely controlled ones),
- outdoor toys,
- themed game sets (kitchen utensils, a set of tools, etc.).
Products can be purchased at children’s toy stores.
