Applying for guide schools

The Greek Ministry of Tourism has announced the start of applications for admission to guide schools in Athens, Thessaloniki and Rhodes.

To participate in the selection, candidates can apply from 06/14/2022 to 06/27/2022 using a special link on the website www.mintour.edu.gr. At the initiative of the Deputy Minister of Tourism Sofia Zaharaki, from 2021, in the context of general renewal of tourism education in our country, after many years, the institutional base of guide schools was updated and modernized, the quality of education was improved, while other modern facilities were added, with new courses for special types of tourism and virtual tours for students. At the same time, the number of places has increased so that schools can take even more students.

Training in five secondary vocational schools for guides of the Ministry of Tourism lasts two years and is free. For admission to shcola entrance exams are not required. Candidate students are accepted through a simple application they submit electronically and are selected in order of priority based on an assessment of their qualifications. Upon graduation graduates receive a diploma and a certificate of compliance with the requirements of the law to carry out activities as a guidewhich gives them the exclusive right to conduct excursions to individuals, travel companies, hotels, based on Law 710/1977 on the provision of tourist services in Greece, writes iefimerida.gr.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism in charge of Tourism Education and Special Forms of Tourism said: “Through the coordinated action, this and next academic year, for the first time since their inception, we have been able to ‘support’ the tourism sector and the five guide schools that we have founded on throughout Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Crete and Corfu), with trained graduates with full professional rights, to best meet the needs of the market. Raising the level of tourism education is a fundamental task for us. At the Ministry of Tourism, we are constantly working to ensure that the curriculum is better aligned with both current events and the needs of the labor market.Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of our tourism services and to further increase the competitiveness of our tourism product.”
