The first ten unaccompanied minors from the Ukrainian city of Slavutych arrived in Greece this morning.
According to the relevant report of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, these are ten children aged from ten months to 17 years and three accompanying persons. The children arrived in Promachonas, and then, accompanied by patrols, were transported to Athens.
Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum Sophia Vultepsi, Minister of Social Policy Marina Lazebna, Special Secretary for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors Iraklis Moskov, Secretary General and Politis Lefteris Ikonomou, Head EL.AS Kostas Skumas, as well as representatives of the National Social Service of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Athens, expatriate businessman Pantelis Bubouras played an important role in the release and transportation of children.
Refugee minors live in housing provided by The Home Project. They are supported by the International Organization for Migration, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Migration.
Greece and Ukraine have signed a protocol on cooperation in the reception and protection of unaccompanied children affected by the war. At the same time, as noted in the announcement, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the first moment gave the go-ahead to accept homeless Ukrainian refugees in Greece, as long as it is necessary.
