False alarm? Mitropoleos in Thessaloniki closed due to bomb threat

This afternoon, unknown people called the police department and reported a bomb planted in the area of Aristotle’s Square in Thessaloniki.

According to grtimes.gr, the call came in at 15:40. Law enforcement officers immediately blocked traffic along Mitropoleos Street, from the intersection with Komninon Street. Between the streets of Tsimiski and Mitropoleos, special tapes are stretched, prohibiting the movement of citizens.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel and a specially trained TEEM dog are on the scene of the alleged explosion. The time limit specified in the telephone conversation has expired and nothing has been found so far. However, the road remains blocked until a full survey of the territory.
