Seven members of a gang that committed robberies in the center of Athens at ΗΣΑΠ or metro stations have been arrested. It was liquidated by the Athens Police Sub-Directorate (Attica Directorate).
As part of the operational actions planned and carried out by law enforcement agencies, 7 people aged 17, 18, 21 and 22 were arrested for systematic robberies and violations of weapons and drug laws. Their identities have been established and their accomplices are being sought. As it turned out during the investigation, the defendants have formed and joined a criminal group since the beginning of this year with the aim of committing robberies.
The defendants, having as their starting points the ΗΣΑΠ and metro stations in the center of Athens, usually approached their victims in groups of two. Then, using threats or “clouding of consciousness,” they removed chains and gold jewelry from the victims, and took away other valuable personal items. When faced with resistance, the robbers did not hesitate to use physical violence or threaten them with sharp objects to achieve what they wanted.
As a result of the searches, two folding knives, cannabis, four chains and two bracelets, three expensive watches, 115 euros, 11 mobile phones and more were found and confiscated.
Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, 12 cases of robbery have now been solved. Those arrested were taken to the Athens District Attorney.
