Microsoft admits: Windows update damaged VPN functionality


After installing the latest Windows update, the VPN may not work properly. Microsoft has promised to fix the problem.

How tells BB.LV, Microsoft OS users previously reported that after installing the latest Windows update, some VPN clients may stop working. Later, the corporation confirmed the fact of the disruption.

According to journalists publications ArsTechnica, VPN clients can be damaged on many popular versions of the operating system – Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 and 2022. Microsoft representatives reported that the problem is caused by update KB5036893which was released on April 9, 2024.

The ArsTechnica article states that Windows users have previously encountered problems with VPNs. For example, at the beginning of 2022, the L2TP and IPSEC VPN protocols were disabled on a number of computers; an update released in 2023 slowed down the work of VPN services.
