"Tax" for fire protection of real estate

The Mitsotakis government introduced an indirect property tax by introducing fire insurance, requiring hundreds of thousands of Greek homeowners to spend money ostensibly for their own benefit.

The fact that the government is trying to shift the blame for fire damage to citizens is only one part of the problem. It seeks to force them, in a totalitarian regime-type decision, to spend many thousands of euros to pay for insurance on their properties or to force them to destroy them, turning the buildings into empty concrete boxes. Thus, millions of people who tried their best to live away from the city will return to it without realizing it.

It should be noted that the law on fire protection of property was passed in secret, just two days before the national elections last May, meaning that it was passed by the caretaker government without discussion in parliament and, of course, without consultation with it.

This fact alone makes suspicious a decision that would effectively allow the state to confiscate the property of thousands of Greek citizens who do not have sufficient income to implement the absurd decisions that the Mitsotakis government is calling for.

It should be noted, however, that no opposition party has yet spoken out or responded. I wonder why? Don't they understand what's going on? Or is there a silent mutual responsibility? Surely thousands of owners will be forced to turn to the Supreme State Council to save their property from an absurd decision.

PS Most likely there are some lobbyists in insurance companies who have donated money to everyone “who needs it”. After all, such insurance is a very decent amount. Or does someone naively think that there is no such thing as lobbying in Greece?
