Russia without Putin was invited to the celebrations in France

France invited Russia to the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6, event organizers Mission Libération said, quoted by Le Figaro:

“Given the circumstances, Putin will not be invited. Russia, however, will be invited to be represented because of its role and sacrifices among the Soviet peoples, as well as its contribution to the 1945 victory.”

Edition BB.LV says, that celebrations to mark the anniversary of the Normandy landings are planned and will take place in France for several months. The main ceremony will take place on June 6 in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, and world leaders are expected to attend. The invitation from Russia, notes radio station Europe 1, will be sent to the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in France.

The Kremlin commented on the invitation of Russia without Putin to the 80th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy. Press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov said: “The fact is that no one officially brought this to us. Although in this vein they may not even bother. The main holiday is Victory Day in Moscow on May 9.”
