Tragedy nearly struck Crete on Sunday afternoon when a 6-year-old girl was swept away by the sea current. Her father, trying to save the girl, was also carried a long distance from the shore.
A policeman from the Rethymno department, together with a naval serviceman, entered the water holding a life jacket tied to the shore with a 50-meter rope.
Characteristic of a strong current is that when all four of them tried to get out, while they were being pulled from the shore, the rope broke, so they got out after great effort.
The little girl was in a state of shock, but fortunately she did not have time to swallow a large amount of water.
