Thessaloniki: 52-year-old woman arrested for keeping 94 dogs in her home acquitted

The Extraordinary Triple Plenary Court of Thessaloniki found not guilty a 52-year-old woman who was arrested a few days ago for having 94 dogs in her house.

According to the neighbors’ complaint, animals lived in unsuitable conditions, which led to the woman’s arrest. She appeared in court on charges of violating animal welfare rules because, according to the indictment, it was established that dogs were kept at her home in the Thermi area without providing them with comfortable, hygienic and suitable housing, which violated the rules of their care. The premises were dirty, with a lot of loose materials, dead rodents, stagnant water and excrement.

The defendant provided documents confirming the existence of a legal animal shelter. She emphasized that she has an agreement with the municipality of Thessaloniki for the maintenance of pets, and the animal shelter operates legally, as confirmed by the documents she provided.

In her apology, she admitted that during an inspection from the outside EL.AS. and Public Health officials, the area where the animals lived was dirty, but she emphasized that she was responsible for the care of the animals and therefore paid feeding and medications are top priority.

It is noted that witnesses who testified in court said that this is a woman who loves and cares for animals, they are in good condition.

PS I wonder if any sanctions will be taken against the complainants? After all, our version that everything was fine with the dogs turned out to be correct.
