To Zograf: "international" arrests – a Swede, an Argentine with an Italian passport and a Greek were detained (video)


A police operation on the Zografou University campus resulted in three arrests on the morning of 16 March. The detainees are not students, and so far the police have no indisputable evidence of their involvement in arson in the area.

A 35-year-old Argentinean with an Italian passport, a 40-year-old Swede and a 38-year-old Greek were arrested. All three are accused of disturbing public order. The police operation took place at a student dormitory near the scene of the arson in the early hours of Thursday morning. reports CNN Greece. The police press release states:

“During the police operation at Zografou Campus today (March 16, 2024), three persons were arrested and a case has been registered against them for disturbing the peace. Those arrested will be brought before the District Attorney of Athens, and the preliminary investigation is ongoing by the State Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate.”

Let us remind you that a few days ago there was arson of school buses and cars in the adjacent territory, the situation worsened when young people with Molotov cocktails attacked police officers. According to unconfirmed information, the attackers probably used the university campus as a base.

Police in the student dormitory building discovered helmets, sticks, firecrackers, gas masks. At about 6 a.m., MAT squads cordoned off the student dormitory building, and police officers OPKE and Attica Security entered the building. Found in the campus building:

  • 27 empty beer bottles;
  • 4 stun grenades;
  • 2 tear gas grenades;
  • 5 helmets;
  • full face masks and hoods;
  • laptop;
  • micro camera;
  • burnt Greek flag;
  • gloves;
  • 3 banners, handwritten notes and forms with anarchist content.

Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Andreas Nikolakopoulos said:

“We are conducting a preliminary investigation to determine whether some of the participants in the recent attack were on campus and whether they used items found on the premises.”

Employees of the forensic laboratory took part in the police operation. Seized items will be tested for fingerprints and genetic material.
