Student "fun": walked out of campus and burned 20 cars

Unidentified assailants set fire to more than twenty vehicles, including five school buses, early Thursday morning in Zografou, setting a record.

The assailants, who carried out the attack shortly after 3 a.m., came out of the campus and sprayed flammable substances on cars and motorcycles parked on Taxilu Road. 12 firefighters in 4 vehicles rushed to the scene and made every effort to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring cars and houses.

A resident of the area in conversation with OPEN said: “PAt about 3 o’clock I saw a flash from the window and saw that flammable material had been thrown at the cars, and the front wheels were burning from the sidewalk. I immediately rushed down to save my moped. I didn’t succeed. As soon as I got downstairs, the car was already on fire, and the fire had moved to the opposite side of the street, and in order to save the apartment building, I returned to the house and lowered the blinds. It was a big disaster. About 20 cars burned down”.

“What we see is brutal violence.” School owner Stella Fraguli says there may have been casualties: “At 3 o’clock my parents started calling and saying that they saw some people lighting a fire. There could have been casualties because there are apartments nearby. They burned all our school buses and some of our neighbors’ cars. They were afraid that their apartments would catch fire. What kind of example are we setting? There are two schools here, one is a state secondary school, and ours is for children aged 6-12 years. What we are seeing since this morning is brutal violence. The inside of the school was not damaged. Luckily, we have impenetrable blinds on the windows inside, so the fire didn’t get through. However, the fire could have spread and destroyed the entire building. Luckily for us, we were lucky. Fortunately there were no casualties, and fortunately it was evening.”

She further said: “Neighbors say a house was also on fire down on campus last Saturday. Now they’re up higher. I don’t know. School is operating as normal. We sent an email to parents at dawn saying ‘we’ll be here.’ There are parents who work and have nowhere to put their children. Parents called us and cried, and accompanying people too. We are here to bring smiles back to the children. But we told them that since these are small children, they may be upset, scared. They saw that “There are a lot of people here. There are a lot of people here who live very close.”

It should be noted that the school, which is located in the area where the cars were burning, will operate as usual. They even sent out an email to parents letting them know what happened. The school administration leaves it up to parents whether they want their children to attend classes today or not.

12 firefighters in 4 engines arrived on the scene, making great efforts to prevent the fire from growing in size. According to an eyewitness, the fire started from school buses.

Fire in parked cars on Taxilou Street in the municipality of Zografou, Attica. There are 12 firefighters working with 4 engines. According to the same information, traces of gasoline were found at the scene of the arson. The place where the incident occurred was cordoned off by police officers.

PS All these “unknowns” are well known to the police. However, it was ordinary citizens who suffered, not politicians or famous businessmen. Therefore, such a mess will continue in the future.
