The mystery of flight MH370 – 10 years since its disappearance

Relatives of passengers on mysteriously missing flight MH370 have called for a renewed search for him. No traces of the Malaysian plane with 239 people on board that disappeared from radar in 2014 have ever been found.

About five thousand relatives and friends of passengers on the ill-fated flight gathered on March 3 in Malaysia, in a shopping center near the capital Kuala Lumpur, to celebrate a day of remembrance for those who disappeared ten years ago. They called for a new search Malaysian plane. Many came to the meeting from China – two thirds of the liner’s passengers were from there. Lawyer Grace Nathan, 36, whose mother was on board, said: “The last ten years have been an emotional rollercoaster for me. MH370 is not a story.”

Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, operating flight MH370 on the Kuala Lumpur-Beijing route, disappeared from radar on the night of March 7-8, 2014. Less than an hour passed after takeoff. Presumably the liner crashed, and its wreckage is located somewhere at the bottom of the southern Indian Ocean. In January 2015, Malaysian authorities officially declared all those on board dead.

All attempts to find the plane or the bodies of passengers and crew remain unsuccessful. During underwater searches over an area of 120,000 square kilometers, no traces were found. At different times and in different places, 27 fragments belonging to the missing plane were discovered. From this, experts concluded that the car fell apart, but they could not finally decide whether this happened in the air or when it hit the water and for what reason. The fate of flight MH370 remains a mystery.

At the end of July 2018, the Malaysian government presented the “final report” on the results of the investigation into the disappearance of the plane. The main conclusion is that the investigative team “cannot definitively determine the cause of the disappearance of MH370.”

The report does not explain why the plane suddenly veered off course in the middle of the night and may have continued to fly for several hours without responding to air traffic controllers. The document notes: “The possibility of interference by certain third parties” in the fate of the liner cannot be ruled out.

Ten years since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which became one of the greatest civil aviation mysteries around the world, Malaysia is pushing to resume the tracing search, Transport Minister Anthony Lockie said yesterday. According to him, writes CNN Greece, US underwater exploration company Ocean Infinity has been invited to discuss its latest research proposal after two previous failed attempts.
