"Two million euros for murder": Interpol arrested contract killers

Greek police made a statement about the arrest by Interpol of a group of professional killers carrying out contract killings in Greece.

The gang committed 60 kills

After prosecutors arrested six people in Serbia and two in Spain in connection with two deadly attacks in Vari and Corfu, Greek police spokesman Constance Demoglidou and Attica security director Major General Fotis Dooutis explained how they had located the perpetrators. The liquidated gang committed 60 murders across Europe.

In particular, according to government statements, gang members executed two 44-year-old men from Slovenia in January 2020 while they were having dinner with their families at a tavern in Vari. The murder order, they say, cost a total of 2 million euros. According to them, out of 39 members of the organization, 17 are in prison.

Regarding their goals in Greece, when they were discovered, they entered the country with false documents, using routes usually taken by migrant traffickers. At the same time, they used every possible means to hide their tracks as best as possible when they were transporting money and weapons.

Group codenamed “Ithaca”

First, the director of the Attica Security Directorate, Fotis Duitzis, spoke about the murders that took place in Greece. In particular, he said the following: “The four victims, citizens of Montenegro and Serbia, led and assisted members of a criminal organization based in one of the regions of Montenegro and engaged in drug trafficking around the world. While they were subject to international prosecution under the “red notices” – three for creating criminal organization and one for manslaughter.

However, in 2014, this criminal organization split into two separate and now competing organizations when they lost 200 kilograms of cocaine in Spain. This forced the four victims to flee to Greece to protect themselves from a rival organization. They have been living, using false documents, in areas of Attica since at least 2019.

An organization hostile to victims has teamed up with two other most influential organizations in the Western Balkans, gradually sending people into our country to find victims and commit murders.” According to him, to eliminate the gang, on the initiative of the Greek side, a joint investigation team was created with the participation of Serbian authorities and a Europol group under the code name “Ithaca”.
