What you need to know about changing the color of dishes

If you’ve ever experienced some weird, colorful streaks appearing on your stainless steel cookware, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Stainless steel cookware often contains chromium, a metal that protects it from rust and corrosion. The combination of oxygen and chromium visually creates such an interesting picture (some say it looks like a rainbow). Essentially it is a thin protective layer that changes color when exposed to air and high temperature.

But don’t worry, it’s completely safe. Yes, your cookware can continue to be used as usual. Although it is quite logical that you may want such “beauty” not to be on your kitchen utensils and want the dishes to look completely new.

Imagine that this is… just a cheap deal! There is no need to buy any expensive chemical detergents. Just take vinegar (what every housewife most likely has in her kitchen).

Take some diluted white vinegar and scrub the stainless steel pan with the soft side of the sponge. Ready! Now you just need to rinse and dry the dishes. The acidity of the vinegar will help break down the rainbow layer of oxidation and restore the stainless steel to its best condition.
