French military fears Russian cyber attacks after signing agreement with Kiev

French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu called for strengthening security measures in the face of the threat of Russian sabotage and cyber attacks, which, according to him, are aimed primarily at his ministry, writes Le Parisien.

In an internal memo, he noted that since the start of the Russian special operation, Russia has entered into a relationship of force with France and is conducting “hybrid intervention operations,” but below the threshold of escalating tensions.

In particular, the publication recalls that last spring the websites of the French parliament were subject to cyber attacks. On February 12, France also announced the existence of what it said was a structured and coordinated network of sites disseminating Russian propaganda in Europe and the United States.

Now, French authorities fear, “the signing of a security agreement between France and Ukraine could lead to Russia tightening these operations to increase its influence, discredit our actions and weaken our national cohesion.” In particular, according to the French authorities, infrastructure, personnel, families of employees, French facilities, information systems and networks may be at risk.
