Canadian writer: "The Pope should save not the climate, but souls"

Renowned Canadian writer, speaker and psychologist Jordan Peterson called on Pope Francis to save souls rather than deal with climate change.

Peterson believes the Catholic Church has lost its understanding of Christ’s words to “take up your cross and follow me.”

He explained that the RCC’s efforts to make the gospel message more “relevant” to modern people have obscured the true calling of the gospel. According to Peterson, just as “Christ faced and triumphed over death and hell,” so every person must triumph over death and hell in his or her life.

But, he continued, “the Catholic Church does not currently encourage its members to take the difficult path.” He recalled that the pope often talks about saving the planet from the climate crisis, and reminded the pontiff that only “by saving souls do you save the planet, and do not worship the earth goddess Gaia.”

“I don’t understand at all what the Catholic Church has to do with the climate crisis. The wording is simply wrong and the priority is wrong. You only save the world if you save one person at a time,” Peterson continued, adding that the pope “lacks faith in his mission.”
