Day trip to Zaholi, "fairy village"

Flowing water, large plane trees and a riot of color – you will find all this in the village, located “a stone’s throw from Athens” and just 15 kilometers from Derveniou beach in Corinthia.

Zaholi is a “well hidden” fairytale village. And it is a very good idea to decide to take a day trip there and see something new in the Peloponnese.

Zacholi is approximately 2 hours drive from Athens. Its other name is Eurostini. If you see this on a road sign, you know you’re on the right track.

The village is located on the Zaholi plateau of the same name at an altitude of 750 meters. The village is located in a beautiful green forest, bringing peace and “detoxification” from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The green route is crossed by the Zaholitikos River, which flows into Corinthiakos and makes this place even more magical.

During a day trip to Zacholi, visit “Rhema ton Milon” (Ρέμα των Μύλων). This is the name of the area, which is a real miracle of nature. You will have to walk along a short and easy trail, especially accessible even for those who are not “fit.” Here you will see many ponds, waterfalls and small bridges.

Zaholi is beautiful at any time of the year. And the village’s proximity to Athens makes it a convenient place for multiple visits. Besides Rematon Milon, the village itself has other attractions such as the Church of St. George, built in 1811. Legend has it that it was built after superhuman efforts by the villagers. During Ottoman rule, local authorities agreed to establish a Christian church in the village only on the condition that it be completed within 40 days, otherwise it would be demolished. And a miracle happened!

The village is also famous for its good food, which you certainly can’t help but appreciate if you’re there. Apart from the fact that it is delicious, you will also be surprised at the very good prices.
