Planitero: heaven on earth a few steps from Athens – how to get there

The hidden trump card of Mount Achaia is the village, which is considered ideal for a short trip, an “escape” from the bustling capital.

With the onset of summer and rising temperatures making daily life in the urban jungle unbearable, everyone is eager to get out into nature and eagerly look for places that will become a source of joy, carefreeness and relaxation.

Any resident of Athens should feel lucky, because they are surrounded by places that are considered ideal for short-term holidays. One of them is Planitero, a village in the former Kalavrita region of the Achaia prefecture that you will definitely fall in love with as soon as you arrive there and get out of the car.

The picturesque place is located just 2.5 hours from Athens (about 220 kilometers) along the Athens-Corinth and then Corinth-Tripoli national road. There is also an alternative route from Athens, via Patras and Kalavryta.

Whatever route you choose, the hairpin bends after leaving the National Highway are an integral part of it, as are the stunning views of nature on both sides of the road.

The village is located at an altitude of approximately 690 meters above sea level, spread out like an amphitheater among beautiful plane trees. The mountain river Aroani flows here, which is well known for its fish farms. The incomparable charm of the spreading plane trees encourages many to take a walk. Visit a traditional water mill that has been renovated and is still in use today.

Here you can find several rooms for rent. In addition, local taverns serve delicious river trout, which is the main delicacy in the area.

Many call the village of Planitero the hidden paradise of Achaea, as the natural beauty of the area enchants even the most discerning traveler.
