Police rescued a 34-year-old man who was shot in the stomach

Dimitris Mylonas, OPKE Attica trainer and member of the board of directors of the Attica Police Officers’ Union, spoke about how first aid-trained officers managed to save the life of a 34-year-old victim last week.

A young man, hospitalized in very serious condition at the Georgios Gennimatas Hospital, received a gunshot wound in Votanikos Park. The attacker shot him three times, one of the bullets hitting him in the stomach. The man, although he was wounded and lost a lot of blood, walked 150 meters down the street, where he saw the police and asked for help. There are employees OPKE They gave him first aid until the ambulance arrived.

In a conversation with iefimerida, coach Dimitris Mylonas explained what happened. “It was at this location in Botanikos that an incident occurred involving two people who were trying to ‘settle their differences’ with guns. One shot the other three times with his pistol. One of the bullets hit a man in the stomach. OPKE services were informed and immediately went to the scene. The vast majority of them are prepared for such incidents,” he said.

“Officers attend relevant courses and seminars. That is, when their colleague or civilian suffers from a gunshot wound or a knife wound, or in a car accident, they must be able to stop the bleeding. This group of fighters attended a special “Stop the Bleed” training last week. They put into practice exactly what we showed them and saved the life of the wounded man. They supported him until the ambulance arrived,” he added.

D. Milonas noted: “This training is very important. It’s a matter of life and death. Because the police are de facto the first to respond to such incidents. To the ambulance, to ECAV. Statistically, the police are the first to arrive at the scene of a shooting. Keep in mind that someone can die from excessive bleeding within two minutes. We, as the Attica Police Association, have focused on these incidents and provided a first aid kit to every OPKE crew. And we feel great joy because they used this kit and saved a person.”
