The European Parliament in Brussels is besieged by thousands of farmers – they demolished the statue in the square "Luxembourg"

Thousands of tractors and thousands of farmers from all over Europe arrived in Brussels for a large protest that began at 12 noon on February 1 at Luxembourg Square (European Parliament) and lasted several hours.

Even before the rally began, protesters They toppled a statue on Luxembourg Square. PThere are clashes with the police, who are trying to prevent farmers from approaching the European Parliament.

European farmers are in a frenzy right now in #Brussels. The same problems exist in #Malta, exacerbated by a broken local market where 75% of our food is imported.

While the leaders EU are at the summit, farmers outside set fire to straw, tires and other materials.

By shouting slogans and throwing stones, farmers are protesting against punitive EU policies, with which some of them want to destroy traditional agriculture and livestock farming (they simply want to “finish off” the latter and promote synthetic meat produced in a laboratory among consumers).

An EU summit will begin today in Brussels, at which the issue of allocating 50 billion euros to Ukraine will be discussed. Meanwhile, farmers unhappy with tax policies in the agricultural sector blocked roads near the summit site with 1,000 tractors overnight, AFP reported.

Belgian farmers protest as EU leaders gather for a summit in Brussels.

The statue of John Cockerill has been removed from Luxembourg Square.

Protesting Belgian farmers have entered the center of Brussels on their tractors and are heading towards the European Parliament. The first barricades and fires are reported in the square (Lux) in front of the parliament building.

#Brussels is under siege by peasants. As wealth becomes increasingly concentrated in fewer and fewer people, social reaction will increase. Most of the protesters are young. Comparisons with our place are prohibited. Everything is decided by occupation, corruption, cost of living and housing.

It should be noted that today EU leaders gathered for a meeting to again discuss the issue of blocking aid to Ukraine from Hungary. That is, they gather not to discuss the problems of farmers or the problems of the European economy, but to put pressure on Hungary and allow Ukraine to allocate 50 billion euros from the pockets of European taxpayers.

The EU summit approved a long-term program of budget assistance to Ukraine worth €50 billion, said the head of the European Council, Charles Michel. There is no information yet on whether this aid will be reviewed by consensus annually, as Orban has demanded.

Prime Minister Denis Shmygal confirmed the approval of 50 billion euros from the EU to Ukraine during 2024-2027.

We welcome #EUCO’s approval of the decision to create a Ukrainian fund in the amount of 50 billion euros for 2024-2027. EU member states are once again demonstrating their solidarity and unity in action for the Ukrainian people to resist the war. Thank you @CharlesMichel, EU leaders for your unwavering support. Each of your votes is a significant contribution to our common victory.

At the same time, the EU will still approve budget payments to Ukraine as part of a support program of 50 billion euros, as Hungary demanded, Reuters reported. Ukraine will receive an average of 12.5 billion euros per year.

It is still unclear where to get the 21.8 billion euros missing from the 2024 state budget – the news from the United States about the allocation of money, on the contrary, is not reassuring.
