Andreas Hadjiangelis, 39, and his older brother Angelos, 51, immigrants from Greece, were arrested by New York authorities when guns and explosives were found in their home, along with a list of names of police officers, politicians, judges, celebrities and bankers, on whom they planned to assassinate.
Improvised explosive devices and weapons were found in the home of Andrew (Andreas) Hadjiangelis and his older brother Angelo (Angelos) in Queens.
The brothers, described by the New York Post as wannabe anarchists, have been charged with 130 counts. The Astoria brothers called some of their victims “business bastards,” and in one of their notes they wrote, “destroy the bastards,” “destroy the earth.”
Eight improvised explosive devices, two loaded AR-15 rifles and two semi-automatic 9 mm revolvers were found in the apartment where the brothers lived, as well as 600 rounds of ammunition and three bulletproof vests. A 3D printer for making plastic weapon parts was also found.
The arrest of the two brothers was made during a joint operation by the New York Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
“The city is a safer place today. We can’t imagine how many lives were saved, but we know those guns didn’t harm anyone,” District Attorney Melinda Katz said.
The brothers are expected to appear in court on February 15 and face 25 years in prison each if convicted.
