Google officially introduces censorship for advertisers

Google very “sensitively” announced the introduction of censorship, declaring a refusal to monetize sites that publish “events that require sensitive treatment.”

The text of the letter sent to publishers using AdSense states the following:

Dear AdSense Publisher! On February 9, 2024, we’ll be adding a new section to our AdSense program policies called Sensitive Events.
Sensitive events are unexpected events that make it difficult for Google to provide high-quality, up-to-date and reliable information. During such events, it is difficult to prevent insensitive or provocative content that has high visibility or is used for monetization. Therefore, when sensitive events arise, we can take various measures to resolve the issues described above. This message is for informational purposes only. No action is required on your part. Sincerely, Google AdSense team.

In essence, this is a “delicate” warning about the official introduction of censorship. And if previously Google did this without warning, now it has officially announced this. After all, the point of view of Google moderators on what is considered materials of an “insensitive or provocative nature” will have to coincide 100% with the opinion of the US State Department and the relevant intelligence agencies…

After “cutting off” advertising for visitors from the Russian Federation, Athens News had to significantly tighten our belts, since we lost 50% of our income. And in this case, we will either have to refuse articles that do not comply with official US policy, or fire employees, or even close down completely…
