Bolivian authorities announced the seizure of an unprecedented amount of cocaine – almost nine tons – in the western prefecture of Oruro, noting that its value in the country is about $224 million. But in Europe, where they thought it was destined, it could fetch twice as much.
The seizure of 8.8 metric tons of cocaine hydrochloride was announced by Bolivian President Luis Arce via social media.

Our work dedicated to our country is producing historic results in the fight against drug trafficking. We inform the Bolivian people and the international community that we have seized 8.7 tons of cocaine destined for the Netherlands (Europe), which was disguised in wooden tiles transported in a truck. In addition, four people who were allegedly members of this criminal organization were detained, nine raids were carried out and four properties were seized. The investigation is ongoing. The amount involved in this illegal activity in the destination country exceeds US$526 million, making it the largest cocaine seizure in #Bolivia’s history.
He explained that the drugs were hidden in a truck transporting floor coverings and added that it was estimated that they were destined for the Netherlands, where resale would bring drug traffickers more than half a billion dollars. The law enforcement operation carried out nine raids and arrested four suspects, other government officials said.
