Patras: former parliamentary candidate arrested for extortion – he was caught red-handed with 150,000 euros

An extortion case between businessmen and the arrest of a 50-year-old man, who was previously a parliamentary candidate and more recently a regional council candidate, has caused a scandal in Patras.

The blackmail was preceded by a complaint from a well-known businessman from Achaia

On Friday afternoon, a police operation was organized and a meeting was scheduled in one of the city’s cafes. When the businessman handed over a large sum of money to the man, police intervened and arrested him and a 37-year-old woman with him.

According to police, the man demanded 300,000 euros from members of the board of directors of an agricultural cooperative to assist them in judicial and administrative matters that arose after the election of a new president. Then the scheduled meeting took place, at which the man appeared with the lady. They were arrested after receiving 150,000 euros, part of which was marked.
