British police have launched an investigation into the “virtual” rape of a minor girl.
Daily Mail tellsthat she was subjected to violence in a VR* game – a teenage girl played in the so-called metaverse using a virtual reality headset**.
According to investigators, a group of men attacked the digital avatar of a 16-year-old girl and raped the electronic image. She was not injured, but experienced real horror and suffered severe psycho-emotional trauma. According to experts, the emotional and psychological impact is more long-term than physical injuries.
It is still unknown how exactly the perpetrators will be judged and punished, because the police in the UK are investigating not a real, but a virtual sex crime. Currently, in the British Criminal Code, the definition of rape can only be applied in cases of physical force.
* VR, artificial reality – a world created by technical means, transmitted to a person through his senses: vision, hearing, touch and others. Virtual reality simulates both exposure and reactions to exposure.
**A virtual reality headset is a head-mounted device that provides virtual reality to the user. VR headsets are widely used in video games and other applications, including simulators and training.
