The photo published on social networks shows that their mobile phones also have the Internet, where the prisoners “uploaded” footage of their own fun. In the corridor between the cells, a festive table is laid, and prisoners pose for photographs as a souvenir! Following the publication, authorities requested an urgent disciplinary preliminary investigation into the incident.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Citizen Protection, an immediate search of the cells of specific prisoners was ordered, and it was announced that “two mobile phones were found and confiscated, one of which had a ‘familiar’ photograph on it.”

The Ministry of Citizen Protection issued a statement: “The Secretary General for Anti-Crime Policy has requested an urgent disciplinary preliminary investigation at the General Prosecutor’s Office of Piraeus in order to clarify the circumstances of the event that occurred on December 25, 2023, the footage of which was made public on social networks. A case has been opened into an internal investigation into the existence of disciplinary and criminal liability of employees of a particular penitentiary institution.

In addition, an immediate search was ordered in the cells of the prisoners depicted in the relevant photographic material, where two mobile phones were found and confiscated, one of which contained a photograph posted on the Internet. At the same time, under the leadership of the supervising prosecutor of the penitentiary institution, a corresponding case was initiated against the depicted prisoners.
