The policeman who was hit by a flare in Renty died.
The peace officer, who spent several days in a public hospital in Nice, “lost the fight for life.” The 31-year-old policeman was seriously injured during incidents in Rentis near the Melina Mercouri stadium on the evening of December 7. A young man was hospitalized in critical condition after being hit in the thigh by a flare.
According to doctors, the shell exploded inside the leg and burned continuously for 5 minutes, since it contains phosphorus, which cannot be extinguished either by foam or water. Doctors tried to clean the wound as toxic substances continued to be released from phosphorus. Doctors had to resort to amputation of the limb.
Doctors made superhuman efforts to save the policeman’s life, but the patient died. An 18-year-old offender who was arrested and confessed to setting fire and throwing a rocket on the night of December 7 has been charged with premeditated murder.
