The first fast food restaurant staffed entirely by robots

In Pasadena, California, the first fast food restaurant will open in 2024, in which everything will work automatically and will be controlled by robots.

Flippy, the first robot with artificial intelligence, will fry chicken nuggets and fries, while its “colleague” BurgerBot will fry hamburgers. Also, the PopID biometric payment system will accept customer orders at the CaliExpress restaurant.

Cali Group, which owns Miso Robotics, the company behind Flippy, hopes the new CaliExpress will inspire “the next generation of entrepreneurs in artificial intelligence and kitchen automation” by offering educational tours and robotics exhibitions, targeting mainly schools and educational groups in the city. because they will be able to visit a restaurant and learn about the new opportunities that artificial intelligence offers in a specific field.

At the same time, critics express concerns about financial costs and also cite the risk of job losses. Valyant AI founder Rob Carpenter said in May that millions of jobs will likely be lost in the next five to 10 years as robots replace most fast food restaurant jobs. He said: “We will see artificial intelligence move from manufacturing plants to consumer-facing workplaces, where traditionally only real people exist.”

Recall that leading technology executives, researchers and scientists, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, spoke in 2023 about the risk of jobs disappearing as they are replaced by artificial intelligence.
