The 75-year-old driver who received a fine of 12,560 euros for traffic violations is the owner of popular nightclubs

The 75-year-old driver, who broke all traffic rules by running red lights throughout Athens, was the owner of famous nightclubs in Athens, Mykonos and KOse.

Summer 1980, on the island of Kos, 28-year-old Michalis Diamantopoulos opens a bar that is very successful. By the early 1990s, he was already the owner of one of the biggest clubs in Athens, which opened in 1991 and immediately became a famous hangout for celebrities and socialites, with queues at its entrance on America Street stretching across Voukourestiou Boulevard.

The success of the club was so great that in 1995 Diamantopoulos. opened a summer club in Porto Rafti, and six years later he “rented” a club in Mykonos, first in Chora, and always with great success. In 2003, the club was moved to Mykonos as a beach bar and restaurant, which was initially a great success as it was a new type of service on the “island of the winds” that changed the approach to customers in the leisure market.

Now Michalis Diamantopoulos is married, he has two children, a son and a daughter, who have become the successors of his business, which is experiencing its heyday.

Police raid and beating

However, on the evening of January 27, 2005, at least 80 Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officers conducted a film shoot at the club on American Street after receiving information that the place was being used for drug trafficking, mainly ecstasy pills and cocaine. Officers arrested a total of eleven people, including the club’s two current owners.

This raid was talked about for several days in famous establishments in Athens, as was the MD, who was involved in a scandal that lasted for quite a long time and ruined his image until that moment.

Seven years passed before his name appeared in the news again, and not because of his frequent social appearances, which have not stopped to this day. This time it was about his brutal beating near a famous nightclub in Mykonos, where MD ended up after a night of partying. He was soon spotted by island residents and tourists lying bleeding outside a Gelato bakery and decided to transport him to Athens, where he was treated in the intensive care unit of a private hospital.

Crazy Race

On December 19, shortly after six o’clock in the morning, MD drunkenly violated the rules of driving on a double lane on Amalias Avenue, then he began to drive in the oncoming lane of traffic in the direction of Panepistimiou, and when the police asked him to stop, he increased his speed and began to drive through a red light traffic lights one after another. To avoid accidents and injuries to pedestrians, police crews were called and managed to stop him at a quarter past eight in the morning at the exit from the city in the Pallini area.

MD, in his mad dash, ran 17 red lights, drove twice in the oncoming lane, drove onto a brick, violated the rules for driving on a double lane, and after an inspection it was determined that he was driving while consuming a large amount of alcohol. He was fined a total of €12,560, his driving license was confiscated for three years and his car license and registration plates were confiscated for one year and two months.

Having regained consciousness, he allegedly told the police that he did not remember anything that happened an hour and a half ago…
