The incoming mayor of Athens, H. Doukas, condemned the actual exclusion of the mayor’s office from participation in city projects, mentioning that the company “Ανάπλαση Αθήνας Α.Ε.”, affiliated with former mayor K. Bakoyannis, in the last days of his work received a government order worth 5 million euros.
In short, the outgoing Mayor of Athens, Mr. Bakoyannis, continued “to distribute” money to his people, the publication reports ProNews. Company “Ανάπλαση Αθήνας Α.Ε.” signed a contract agreement to perform work under the contract “Restoration of the building housing the Academy of Lyric Arts MARIA CALLAS.” The contract price of the project is 4,873,400 eurosconstruction will be completed in 24 months.
Contract on behalf of Ανάπλασης Αθήνας was signed by Managing Director Polychronis Akritidis, who was appointed by Kostas Bakoyannis! What Bakoyannis did is not illegalbut from a political point of view it is simply unethical, because usually political leaders do not sign and distribute projects after elections they lost.
In this case, Mr. Bakoyanis was defeated in the elections and is transferring affairs to the new mayor. There is no urgent need for him to sign this project, and he could sign something similar if he had the consent of the next mayor, namely Haris Doukas, which he does not have.
A furious attack on the government for the provisions for “Ανάπλαση Αθήνας Α.Ε.” and yesterday’s signing began in his speech earlier today at the plenary meeting of the House of Representatives and SYRIZA parliamentary representative Nikos Pappas, stating: “ you do not have your own God.”
“If we take what you say at face value, it is as if you are trying to convince us that Mr. Bakoyannis is completely incapable of managing these affairs. And you, without selfish motives, make a choice in favor of the executive branch, which supposedly will speed up the implementation of this policy – added the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA, addressing the government. – Therefore, we propose that in order to complete the executive cycle and stop the progress of projects, now that Mr. Bakoyannis is no longer mayor, you should make him Minister of Reconstruction.”
As is known, Kostas Bakoyannis is son of Dora Bakoyanni, one of the most influential politicians in the New Democracy party, which many call “gray eminence” in government Kyriakos Mitsotakisand is also nephew (and rumored to be an older brother) current prime minister.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis actively supported his nephew in all the years after his arrival as Prime Minister, turning a blind eye to the numerous criticism and accusations of corruption against Kostas Bakoyannis.
