The figures are simply astonishing: unpaid taxes alone amount to 5 billion euros (and the 4th quarter has not yet been calculated), with 40% of citizens being “blacklisted” by tax authorities.
In the ten months of January – October 2023, the volume of unpaid taxes reached about 5 billion euros, and the number of debtors exceeded 4 million.
At the same time, finance workers are busy scribbling paperwork and creating budgets for additional taxes, for example, on freelancers, rising prices for essential goods are gaining momentum, and Mr Mitsotakis believes that he should say “thank you” for giving the go-ahead !

According to AADE, the total amount of outstanding debts exceeded 106 billion euros, with “fresh” outstanding debts reaching 5.771 billion euros in October.
According to AADE:
- Over 10 months, overdue debts to the state reached a total of 5.771 billion euros.
- The total amount of overdue debt reached 106.020 billion euros, of which 26.311 billion euros are uncollectible, and net arrears amounted to 79.7 billion euros.
- 4,031,138 individuals and legal entities have accounts opened with the tax department. Of these, 2,041,234 debtors are under threat of arrest, and enforcement measures have been applied to 1,479,507.
