Electric scooters are a popular form of transport that allows you to quickly and conveniently move around the city. However, they also carry certain risks, such as falls, collisions, injuries and even death. Therefore, it is important to follow safety rules when riding an electric scooter: wear a helmet and other protective equipment, ride according to traffic rules, avoid dangerous places and situations, control speed and braking, do not ride in bad weather or at night, do not ride while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, do not use a phone or headphones while riding, do not carry passengers or cargo, or do stunts or acrobatics on the electric scooter. If you do get into an electric scooter accident, you need to: call an ambulance or see a doctor if you have injuries, especially to the head, neck or back, report the accident to the police if there are others involved or injured, take photographs or video of the accident scene if possible, retain evidence or contacts of eyewitnesses if available, contact your insurance company or lawyer if you want compensation for damage or injury.

“Electropatini in urban areas do not have appropriate operating and safety frameworks. The fashionable vehicle is designed to help residents and visitors of the city in terms of mobility, but in the end it created certain inconveniences and problems,” says Michalis Kupkas, deputy mayor for economic affairs of the central district.

According to medical sources who spoke to onlarissa.gr, the teenager was allegedly injured while riding an electric scooter. The incident occurred at 11:30 pm on Sunday evening on Anhialou Street, in the Philippoupolis area of Larissa. The circumstances of the incident are not disclosed. As the Athens News previously wrote, teenagers “snooping” on electropatini create chaos and lead to serious accidents, risking both their lives and others.

Let us remind you that a fashionable form of urban transport, which appeared with fanfare in Greece, occupied the streets of the center of Athens and Thessaloniki, creating chaos and disorder on the roads and in pedestrian areas. No one argues with the convenience and new level of communications that appeared with the introduction of a modern type of microtransport, but at the same time many other problems emergedm.

In particular, despite the initial enthusiasm, there is growing concern over the lack of official traffic rules or laws governing the movement of such equipment on the streets. In both Athens and Thessaloniki, electric scooters are used on sidewalks, causing intimidation and inconvenience to pedestrians. After all, an object weighing up to 150 kg, moving at a speed of up to 25 kilometers per hour, in a collision with a pedestrian can lead to serious injuries (which has already been recorded by the police).

The situation is no better on the roads, where dashing scooters periodically taxi, accelerating up to 30 km/h and above, maneuvering between cars and motorcyclists, creating an already tense situation on the roads. However, none of the scooter users wears a protective helmet.
