The organs of a young man who died in Thessaloniki gave life to those in dire need of transplantation


At Thessaloniki General Hospital “G. Papanicolaou” a 33-year-old man died. His family made the difficult decision to donate the man's organs to save lives, showing mercy and generosity.

The man was hospitalized in the 2nd intensive care unit of the hospital, but, alas, lost the battle for life. A statement from the medical institution states that on Easter Sunday, organ and tissue donation was carried out by the surgical teams of the GNTH Hippokratios transplant department, the heart transplant department of the Onassios Cardiac Surgery Center and the PGNH AHEPA ophthalmology clinic.

The administration of the hospital “G. Papanicolaou” expresses condolences and warmest gratitude for the organ donation and greatness of soul to the relatives of the deceased, and also thanks the team of the 2nd intensive care unit and all other departments and clinics of the hospital that participated in the process. These are staff from the department of anesthesiology, surgery, radiology laboratory, cardiology department, microbiology laboratory, biochemistry laboratory, hematology laboratory and blood donation department, as well as the immunology and histocompatibility department. The hospital said in a statement: “Without the critical contributions of all these healthcare professionals, the successful outcome of the donation process would not have been possible.”
