“The European Council decided to open negotiations on accession to the EU with Ukraine and Moldova. The #European Union has granted candidate status to Georgia. And with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU will open negotiations as soon as the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is achieved, and invited the commission to submit a report by March, to make such a decision. A clear signal of hope for their people and for our continent.”

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis also supports the European Commission’s proposals to begin accession negotiations with Ukraine and hopes for a unanimous decision by the EU. “I hope and wish that we can overcome any reactions so that the European Council can unanimously give a clear signal that the future of Ukraine lies in the European family,” – Mitsotakis told reporters.

Regarding the review of the multi-year financial structure, Mitsotakis reiterated the need to provide additional resources to address the immigration problem and to cope with the consequences of the climate crisis.

Earlier, Athens News reported that the European Commission decided to transfer to Ukraine interest from the income received from the placement of Russian Central Bank securities confiscated by the ESM.

Athens News previously reportedthat the main opponent of Ukraine’s accession to the EU, Viktor Orban, received 10 billion euros in exchange for his consent, as well as many other important preferences for Hungary, however, as it turned out, the Hungarian president changed his mind…

In a video posted on his X network page, the Hungarian President explained that he abstained from voting because it was a bad decision by Brussels and Hungary does not want to bear part of the responsibility” for this “absurd” decision of the other 26 countries.
