A route of unique beauty, located two hours’ drive from Athens, capable of radically changing its “image” and enchanting everyone during all four seasons.
The Road of Love is located on the western side of Vytina, in the so-called Old Village with the historical churches of the Holy Apostles (1831 with a beautiful carved iconostasis) and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (1847).
In fact, this wonderful route runs between maples and plane trees. And the road got its name because in the past it was “very dear to the hearts” of both local residents and guests from neighboring villages. Here couples made dates for each other.
The area is also home to the famous Dasaki tis Vytinas Forest Park (Δασάκι της Βυτίνας), which covers an area of 40 acres and is suitable for walking.
The forest park was created by the Germans and today is used as a recreation area. 3,780 species of pine, fir, chestnuts, etc. grow here. Vytina is one of the oldest and most famous winter resorts in the Peloponnese., attracting a large number of visitors at any time of the year. And it is located in a picturesque place in the Northern Mainalos mountain valley, at an altitude of 1033 m.
“Road of Love” is located almost 2 hours from Athens. According to the 2011 census, there are 652 inhabitants living here and it is classified as a traditional settlement. According to the prevailing opinion, its name comes from the word “Vithos”, since it was originally built in a hollow between the hills.
