Motorcyclist in Mykonos lost "battle" with a cow

A 39-year-old motorcyclist on the island of Mykonos died when he collided with a stray cow on the Chora Ano Meras provincial road.

The animal suddenly appeared in front of the driver in the middle of the road, emerging from the herd, causing the man to lose control of the motorcycle and fall onto the road. The traffic accident happened early on Sunday morning. An ambulance took the driver to the Mykonos Medical Center, but despite the efforts of doctors, he could not be saved. writes cyclades24.gr.

The uncle of the deceased says that this is not an isolated case when cows or other animals come out onto the road due to the lack of barriers. He cannot recover from grief after the death of his nephew and says:

“The nephew went to visit, on a holiday, and was returning home. The cows, like many other animals that leave the fields due to the lack of fences, got lost in the middle of the road. Probably the person who is responsible for feeding the animals left the gate open… these are not gates, these are sofas, and they put them on the road, and the animals came out and crashed into the child. The injury was through and through. My brother and sister-in-law were not allowed to see him. Is this a sign that you have ten animals on the ring road? Without a fence ?”.

The Mykonos Police Sub-Division has opened a case and an investigation is underway into both the circumstances of the incident and the owner of the livestock.
